offshore vessel skimmer

GULFPORT, Miss. (May 10, 2010) A U.S. Navy offshore vessel skimmer is loaded on a spud barge from Resolve Marine as part of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill response. The Supervisor of Salvage and Diving division of Naval Sea Systems Command has deployed more than 85 truckloads of containment booms and skimming systems to support cleanup efforts for the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Deepwater Horizon was an ultra-deepwater oil rig located 130 miles southeast of New Orleans that exploded April 20 and sank April 22, causing a massive oil spill threatening the U.S. Gulf Coast.
